How to avoid scams when choosing a moving company?

  • You know, I never thought I’d be the kind of person to get caught up in a scam, but here we are. A couple of months ago, I was moving from Kharkiv to Lviv and decided to go with a moving company I found on social media—looked legit, had a few decent reviews. Long story short, they took an upfront payment and just ghosted me. I had to scramble last minute to find someone else, and it cost me way more than it should’ve. I’m still pretty annoyed about it. So now I'm trying to figure out what red flags to watch out for and how to tell if a moving company is actually trustworthy. Anyone got tips or maybe some sort of checklist? Would be super helpful.

  • Just stumbled across this thread and it got me thinking. I haven’t moved recently, but a friend of mine had a pretty smooth experience just because he asked his neighbors for local recommendations. Word of mouth still seems to be one of the most reliable ways to avoid trouble. And I guess doing a bit of homework before jumping in always pays off. It's kind of wild how many scammers are out there in something as basic as moving.
